Canvas for Change

mural PAINTING

‘Canvas for Change’ is an educational program that combines working with children and brightening up a public space for the local community.

A few shopfronts volunteered their shutters for the program and we just had to make sure the artwork was relevant to the shop’s branding.

The teachers from the local schools selected a handful of students who may have an interest in art and/or having a difficult personal time in hopes that the workshops will inspire them, find a therapeutic outlet through art, and make them proud of their local area.

We organised several workshops introducing the children to mural art and design and did some art theory and practical work trying different methods of spray painting and painting in general in an open space.

Once the workshops were completed and the children had contributed to the space, I then proceeded to complete the mural.

I had several locals tell me how much they loved the mural art and that they would take pride in keeping it tidy for their high street.

This will become an ongoing project as more areas are interested in the program.

I worked on the charity shopfront for ‘Shelter’

their request was to have the artwork reflect their charity work
and to keep to their colour palette of Red, White and Black.

I chose to create flat building where every window shows a different living circumstance, showcasing diversity, hope and love in all it’s forms.
