Bangladeshi women

I’ll be adding my Bangladeshi women illustrations here as I work through my list.

The whole motivation behind this project is to showcase and celebrate these genuinely talented and hardworking individuals.

Joy Crookes

She's a Neo Soul and Alternative R&B English singer-songwriter. Crookes' music is about relationships, mental health, her culture, her South London roots and her identity. She was nominated for the Rising Star Award at the 2020 Brit Awards, came fourth place in BBC sound of 2020 list, and recently earned her spot on Forbes 30 under 30 for all her hard work

This is pretty silly but I watched Crookes' color video for like a year without clocking on that she's Bangladeshi. I kept saying to myself "she looks a bit like me but that's only a coincidence" but after hearing her song 'London Mine' and the particular lyrics "Bangla noise on brick lane, That's the sound of my home" I was blown away with how obvious it actually was and how much she had intertwined her cultural background into her work! And then when I saw her yellow lehenga outfit from the Brit Awards it only solidified it more to me how much she cares about representation of South Asian people. Especially in the creative industry where we are still pretty scarce, so it makes me happy knowing she has embraced her roots proudly. So yeah as one Bangladeshi creative to another, thanks for representing our community.

P.S. If you haven't listened to her song 'Feet don't fail me now' then quickly scooch your bum over to YouTube or Spotify or Apple music or the radio and soak up the amazing music!
